Many young scientists see scientific career trajectories (e.g., in media, from professors) that flow directly from grade school, to undergraduate, then on to either graduate school or career. In fact, few paths are so direct, and many scientists change directions throughout their career. This presentation reflects on one such unconventional career path. The presenter will highlight graduate (Heritage Science) and post-doctoral (Biosensing) achievements in academia which led to a career with the Federal government (Forensic Science). Additional topics will include reflection on how and why paths may differ, lessons learned, and transitioning between sectors.
